VIBRATIONS

ARTIST STATEMENT

Can you see the frequencies of each sound represented in space?

This is an imagining of one possible metaverse where all music has a life of its own in a synesthesia world. Purple lines fade to blue and recedes as each harmonic fades. The height of each harmonic represents the amplitude. Lower frequencies are on the left. As far as I know it is not possible to show a full colour stereoscopic 3D 4K video on Vimeo. So this is a 2D render of my original 3D piece created for YouTube VR. If you have a VR HMD headset like Meta Quest2, a better way to watch it is here:

If you don't have a VR headset, you will have to imagine this in immersive stereo space. I made this simple piece as a birthday gift for my artist wife @marijeanharris. (She always brings me good vibrations). The music is "Call of the Winds" by Oran LASYA., licensed from artlist.io. I hope you enjoy it.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

Made with care in derivative Touch Designer, using my VR180 framework program. The background galaxy is a skybox purchased from the Unity store. The foreground code is based on Ab-out's brilliant "2022 Audio Histogram" tutorial, with thanks. This is rendered real time at 60 frames per second from a fast fourier transform analysis of the music. Many thanks for watching.
